Advancements in technology has bought dramatic changes in every field; Audio & Video conferencing is not any exception. Traditional Video conferencing endpoints were limited by their functionality. Bulky Hardware, expensive (high cost of ownership), propriety cabling (not flexible), hard to install & operate. We have even seen laminated sheets on board room tables explaining how to dial & receive calls, which itself is a fail as it can be challenging and time consuming. Else IT department would step in to set up & assist the team in setting up a call, which we think is not valuable use of IT resources.

During our company’s design phase, we did plan to include standards-based traditional Audio & Video conferencing end points. However, after analyzing market trends & exploring the complete range of Plug & Play solutions from multiple vendors findings have surprised us and boosted our conference. Thus, contrary to our initial plan we have come to an interesting conclusion to run specifically with Plug & Play Solutions.

Good example is Poly(Previously Polycom) who are one of the leaders in standards based Audio & Video end points have recently launched range of USB peripherals such as Poly Studio, Poly Cube, EagleEye Mini or VoxBox which proves the raise of USB endpoints for meeting rooms. Brands like Logitech, Jabra, Sennheiser, Poly, Konftel, Aver, Huddly, ClearOne, HuddleCam and few more already operate in this space from a long time. A recent study by Synergy Research states that there is a big drive towards USB driven video rooms in the conference market. This segment jumped well over 40% by Q1 2019 from less than 5% in 2016. In contrast there is a decline in traditional codec-based video solutions to 70%, which were 90% back in 2016.

Furthermore, in the recent times there is a big drive towards Video as a Service (VaaS) and Audio as a Service (AaaS) services. All thanks to the popularity of unified communications (UC) platforms which such as Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, Zoom,] PexIP[, Go-to Meetings , to name a few. The popularity of these platforms has bought every aspect of VaaS and AaaS with just touch of a button. Hence, we feel there is no need for a separate channel to carry out any type of conferencing. UC Platform bundle Options:
There are 2 types of AV options for UC platforms 1) BYO Laptop/PC rooms 2) Platform specific Native bundles (with dedicated PC).
BYO rooms: Generally consists of camera , microphone/ speaker or All in one bundle kit. With one of these devices in your meeting rooms, just drop in with your lappy. Simply connect to in room USB conferencing hardware usually a single HDMI/USB or in few occasions Both cables. Simply start your conference on your laptop/PC and just by “Plug & Play” to the AV units would start your conference in no time. This set up is perfect for organizations who use multiple UC platforms internally or those who do not want to get stuck with single UC platform supported devices. There are various BYO bundles available to suit your room sizes or preferences.
On the other hand, Native UC bundles are driven by a dedicated PC loaded with associated UC platform software. Native bundles integrate well into the platform’s ecosystem as they are specially formulated for that specific purpose. This gives you a similar look & feel as your PC client (Déjà vu feeing). All you need to do is to connect these bundles to any display over a reliable internet and you are all set to go. Content can be shared from UC client or via HDMI cable. There are various UC Platform bundles available to suit your room sizes or preferences.
